Containing group: Stratiomyidae

Introduction

Most Nemotelinae larvae are aquatic. Lasiopa villosa is found in wet soil under leaf litter. The larvae of Brachycara and Pselaphomyia are unknown. Adults are found on flowers (Woodley 2001).

Characteristics

Nemotelinae are distinguished by their six antennal flagellomeres.

Relationship of Nemotelinae to Other Stratiomyidae

Nemotelinae have been a subordinate group of Stratiomyinae and Clitellariinae. Woodley (2001) posited that they are related to Stratiomyinae and Raphiocerinae based on their aquatic larvae. Brammer and von Dohlen (2007) found a sister relationship between Nemotelinae and Sarginae using molecular data.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
